The Valencia Marathon 2015

The Valencia Marathon 2015

Valencia is famously known as the ‘city of running’ and for good reason. The climate is perfect for training as there are many flat, scenic places to run such as the Turia dry river bed in the city or the beaches of Malvorrosa. So, once you have bought your Valencia homes for sale, you had better invest in a decent pair of running shoes!

The 35st Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso of 2015 was held yesterday in the city, (15/11/2015) and was yet another triumph for both the runners and the organisers of this awe-inspiring event.

The atmosphere was electric and you could feel the emotion in the air as many of the runners have been training for the best of the year to participate and for a few it’s a once in a life time achievement.

There is always a 10km race that runs along side for those runners who want to participate but not wishing to run the entire 42km!

Azahar Properties owner, Simon Creed successfully completed the marathon last year and this year ran the 10 km circuit in 53:04 commented:

‘The marathon of Valencia is one of the best running events in Spain. It’s flat for a start and unlike the London marathon, anyone can subscribe in advance to participate. The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant with many people lining the streets to offer their support and encouragement. There’s music and bands at various points to keep you going.’

What was very poignant this year was the minutes silence to remember those killed in the Paris bombings only a couple of days ago.

Even as a spectator, just soaking up the atmosphere and seeing the runners crossing the line is a fantastic experience.

Tip: Parking close to the event is tricky but you can usually park in the Al Saler shopping centre and walk across the bridge to see the runners.

For every runner that finishes 1 Euro goes to charity. The selected charity this year was the Fundación Activa Espina Bífida Comunidad Valenciana.

So, you have a year to start your training and it could be you crossing the line next year. See you there!
